La habitación blanca 1999
La habitación blanca is a very simple, almost insignificant tale. A man buys a new television set, the latest model, to satisfy his addiction with the device. The star (Chete Lera) is determined to convince his family that it was a good buy and means moving up in the world. The ensuing dialogue is rather pathetic. After a few times, when switched on, the television shows nothing but a fixed image, a room painted in white. The image starts appearing automatically, periodically, to the point of obsessing the man. Suddenly the screen swallows the protagonist and we see him sitting, naked, inside the box.
Like in La cabina, the ending is not the most important part of La habitación blanca, but the story itself. Some narrations justify any plot. That’s the case of La habitación blanca. For a whole hour, the suspense increases until completely ensnaring the spectator: first of all as a mystery, then as a worry, as a knot that tightens in the throat.
